Jamaica's leading public teaching hospital, on the UWI Mona campus in St Andrew. Founded in 1954, UHWI is the principal referral centre for the entire English-speaking Caribbean. Its 24/7 Accident & Emergency department handles trauma, cardiac, paediatric, and obstetric emergencies, backed by intensive care, general and specialist surgery, oncology, maternity, and paediatrics. Teaching affiliation with the UWI Faculty of Medical Sciences means most of Jamaica's senior consultants work or train here.
