National headquarters of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, 2–4 Maxfield Avenue in Kingston. The JFB operates stations in every parish, responds to structural, vegetation, and vehicle fires, carries out rescue operations, and — in many parts of Jamaica — doubles as the primary ambulance service. Emergency: dial 110 from any phone, free of charge. Administrative line: 876-928-1484. The Brigade also carries out fire inspections, public-education programmes, and issues fire-safety certificates required for many commercial premises.
