Boys and Girls Athletics Champs
Annual Event · National Stadium
Rating: 4.9 / 5
For five days every March the National Stadium in Kingston is packed to its 35,000-seat capacity for the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletic Championships, known universally as Champs. Running since 1910 for boys and 1957 for girls, the event is the engine room of Jamaican sprinting, where Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Yohan Blake, and Elaine Thompson-Herah first emerged. Schools such as Calabar, Kingston College, Edwin Allen, and Holmwood Technical battle for the banner in an atmosphere that rivals any professional meet on earth.
