Long Bay, on Portland's east coast, is regarded as the most consistent surf break in Jamaica, with a mile of sandy beach producing beginner- and intermediate-friendly Atlantic waves most months of the year. A small community of local surfers runs lessons and board rental from the handful of guesthouses and bars behind the beach, with sessions typically booked informally via the village. The water can be rougher than the north-coast beaches, and the vibe is firmly local — this is where Jamaican surfers come to surf, not a resort set-up.
