Montego Bay Marine Park

Protected Reef · Mobay

Rating: 4.6 / 5

The Montego Bay Marine Park was established in 1992 as Jamaica's first marine protected area, covering the coastal waters from the airport east to the Great River for roughly 15 km. The park protects fringing reefs, seagrass beds and mangrove shorelines, and supports parrotfish, sea fans, elkhorn and brain corals and a long list of reef fish. Snorkel and dive operators in Mobay all include sites inside the park on their trips. The park office on Pier 1 runs educational programmes and enforces the no-take zones that keep the reefs recovering.
