Bath Fly Fishing — Inland

Fly Fishing · St. Thomas

Rating: 4.4 / 5

St. Thomas parish, on Jamaica's remote south-east corner around the town of Bath, is the country's most established fly-fishing destination. Seasoned guides work the brackish rivers, tidal creeks and coastal flats for tarpon, snook and bonefish — species rarely targeted elsewhere on the island. The dry season, roughly December to April, produces the clearest water and best sight-fishing conditions. The area is quiet, agricultural and well off the main tourist trail, and access is generally arranged privately through a handful of local guides.

About fishing in Jamaica

Jamaica's deep waters hold blue marlin, wahoo, sailfish, mahi-mahi, and tuna. The Port Antonio Marlin Tournament every October is one of the longest-running deep-sea events in the Caribbean. Charter boats run daily out of Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios, and Port Antonio. The Black River Safari in St. Elizabeth is the place for crocodile spotting and inland fishing. The fish markets at Old Harbour and Whitehouse sell the daily catch.
