Discovery Bay Fishing Co-op

Co-op · St. Ann

Rating: 4.4 / 5

The Discovery Bay fishing co-operative operates out of the horseshoe-shaped Columbus Bay on the St. Ann north coast, supplying fresh-caught fish, lobster and conch into the nearby resort and restaurant trade along Runaway Bay and Ocho Rios. Member boats work the north coast's reef edge and deeper offshore water, and the beach-based co-op buys, weighs and distributes the catch. A window into the commercial fishing side of the north-coast resort economy.

About fishing in Jamaica

Jamaica's deep waters hold blue marlin, wahoo, sailfish, mahi-mahi, and tuna. The Port Antonio Marlin Tournament every October is one of the longest-running deep-sea events in the Caribbean. Charter boats run daily out of Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios, and Port Antonio. The Black River Safari in St. Elizabeth is the place for crocodile spotting and inland fishing. The fish markets at Old Harbour and Whitehouse sell the daily catch.
