Whitehouse Fishing Beach

Fish Beach · Westmoreland

Rating: 4.4 / 5

Whitehouse is one of the largest working fishing villages on the south coast, stretched along the shore in Westmoreland between Bluefields and Savanna-la-Mar. Boats land throughout the day and a busy fish beach operates from the sand, selling whole snapper, parrotfish, kingfish, lobster, shrimp and conch straight off the gunwales. Much of Negril's restaurant seafood is sourced here. A great stop for a genuinely local coastal experience — buy fish to take back to a guesthouse kitchen, or find a small roadside kitchen to fry it on the spot.

About fishing in Jamaica

Jamaica's deep waters hold blue marlin, wahoo, sailfish, mahi-mahi, and tuna. The Port Antonio Marlin Tournament every October is one of the longest-running deep-sea events in the Caribbean. Charter boats run daily out of Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios, and Port Antonio. The Black River Safari in St. Elizabeth is the place for crocodile spotting and inland fishing. The fish markets at Old Harbour and Whitehouse sell the daily catch.
