Bellevue Hospital at 16½ Windward Road, Kingston 2, is Jamaica's main public psychiatric hospital, established in 1862 as the Kingston Lunatic Asylum and subsequently reformed through the twentieth century. Today it provides inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care, crisis admission, and the bulk of publicly funded secondary mental-health care on the island. Men make up a substantial share of admissions. Referrals typically come through the public health system or A&E.
