Castleton Botanical Gardens

Gardens · St. Mary

Rating: 4.4 / 5

One of the oldest botanical gardens in the western hemisphere, founded in 1862 on 15 acres straddling the Wag Water River in St. Mary parish, on the road between Kingston and Port Maria. Castleton was historically a key node in the Kew-linked Imperial botanical network, through which many tropical plants were introduced to the Caribbean. Visitors today enjoy shaded riverside picnic spots, a suspension bridge across the Wag Water, and a rich collection of tropical and rare species.
