Doctor's Cave Beach

North Coast · Mobay Hip Strip

Rating: 4.7 / 5

Doctor's Cave Beach Club is Montego Bay's most famous beach, sitting on the Hip Strip along Gloucester Avenue in the heart of the tourist quarter. The club gets its name from a 19th-century cave on the site and the long-standing local legend that the spring water mixing with the sea holds curative properties — a reputation that put Mobay on the tourism map in the 1920s. Today a modest day pass buys entry to fine white sand, clear reef-protected water ideal for snorkelling, sun loungers, umbrellas, freshwater showers, a pool bar and a beach grill. It is walking distance from most Hip Strip hotels, making it the easiest full beach day in town.

About beaches in Jamaica

Jamaica is home to over 80 beaches strung along three distinct coastlines. The north coast — anchored by Negril's Seven Mile Beach, Doctor's Cave in Montego Bay, and Ocho Rios — is the world-famous resort strip with calm turquoise water. The east coast around Port Antonio hides the most dramatic coves: Frenchman's Cove, Winnifred Beach, and Boston Bay. The south coast offers laid-back local favourites like Treasure Beach, Bluefields, and Hellshire. From the cliff-jumping spot at Rick's Café to the secluded sands of Lime Cay, this guide covers every beach worth visiting.
