Black River Safari

Crocodile Tour · St. Elizabeth

Rating: 4.5 / 5

The Black River is Jamaica's longest navigable river, winding through the Great Morass wetlands of St. Elizabeth before emptying into the south coast at Black River town. Covered pontoon boats make the two-hour Safari upstream, passing through mangrove tunnels and past the American crocodiles that still live wild here — many known to the captains by name. Bird life is excellent: herons, egrets, osprey and jacanas. Tours leave daily from the town's small wharf and pair well with a stop at YS Falls or Pelican Bar on the same run.
