Bloody Bay

North Coast · Negril

Rating: 4.6 / 5

Bloody Bay sits at the northern end of the Negril beach strip, around the headland from Seven Mile Beach, and shares the same long stretch of white sand and calm, shallow turquoise water. The name is thought to come from the area's former role as a whaling station. Today the bay is largely backed by all-inclusive resorts — Riu, Royalton and neighbours — but the public sections remain beautiful, quieter than Seven Mile and popular with day-trippers who come in for catamaran and snorkel trips. Watersports operators run jet ski, parasail and glass-bottom boat tours from the sand.

About beaches in Jamaica

Jamaica is home to over 80 beaches strung along three distinct coastlines. The north coast — anchored by Negril's Seven Mile Beach, Doctor's Cave in Montego Bay, and Ocho Rios — is the world-famous resort strip with calm turquoise water. The east coast around Port Antonio hides the most dramatic coves: Frenchman's Cove, Winnifred Beach, and Boston Bay. The south coast offers laid-back local favourites like Treasure Beach, Bluefields, and Hellshire. From the cliff-jumping spot at Rick's Café to the secluded sands of Lime Cay, this guide covers every beach worth visiting.
