Mahogany Beach

North Coast · Ocho Rios

Rating: 4.4 / 5

Mahogany Beach is the everyday Ocho Rios beach — a small, palm-fringed stretch of sand about five minutes' walk from the cruise pier and the main shopping strip, yet largely missed by cruise tourists. Entry is free, the water is calm and good for swimming, and the on-site beach bar does rum punch, jerk chicken and fried fish at reasonable local prices. Watersports operators run snorkel and glass-bottom trips from the sand. The mix of St. Ann locals, long-stay visitors and in-the-know cruise passengers gives it a laid-back, genuine atmosphere that the big resort beaches cannot match.

About beaches in Jamaica

Jamaica is home to over 80 beaches strung along three distinct coastlines. The north coast — anchored by Negril's Seven Mile Beach, Doctor's Cave in Montego Bay, and Ocho Rios — is the world-famous resort strip with calm turquoise water. The east coast around Port Antonio hides the most dramatic coves: Frenchman's Cove, Winnifred Beach, and Boston Bay. The south coast offers laid-back local favourites like Treasure Beach, Bluefields, and Hellshire. From the cliff-jumping spot at Rick's Café to the secluded sands of Lime Cay, this guide covers every beach worth visiting.
