Silver Sands Beach

North Coast · Trelawny

Rating: 4.4 / 5

Silver Sands, a gated villa community on the Trelawny coast west of Duncans, sits on a wide, wind-swept white-sand beach that is considered Jamaica's premier kitesurfing and windsurfing spot. Steady trade winds blow most afternoons from November through August, and the long shoreline gives kiters plenty of room to launch and land. A kitesurf school operates on the beach and the community's villas provide the accommodation base for the scene. The sand is fine and the water is clear; outside of wind-sports visitors, the beach is usually quiet and relaxed.

About beaches in Jamaica

Jamaica is home to over 80 beaches strung along three distinct coastlines. The north coast — anchored by Negril's Seven Mile Beach, Doctor's Cave in Montego Bay, and Ocho Rios — is the world-famous resort strip with calm turquoise water. The east coast around Port Antonio hides the most dramatic coves: Frenchman's Cove, Winnifred Beach, and Boston Bay. The south coast offers laid-back local favourites like Treasure Beach, Bluefields, and Hellshire. From the cliff-jumping spot at Rick's Café to the secluded sands of Lime Cay, this guide covers every beach worth visiting.
